BOOK LAUNCH?  or ART SHOW?

Why not both? says Leona Wisoker, author of "Secrets of the Sands." Her debut novel, due out in April of 2010, features a fantasy world with a rich and complex ecology, society, and culture - and she wants to invite you to come play in it!

Whether you are a "high fantasy artist" or a "mainstream artist," you don't want to miss this show.

Here's why: Leona doesn't just want "fantasy genre artists". She wants artists, in whatever medium, who love to express themselves and have some fun along the way. Whether you work in watercolor, pencil, beadwork, wood sculpture, weaving, sewing, or acrylics, she wants to invite you to stretch yourself, just a little, and think outside of everyday reality. Do you draw lots of dogs? Terrific! There's a canine-based creature in her novel that she would love to see you depict. Do you work with doll clothes? Awesome! Work up some of the designs that various characters in the book wear.

So never mind your notion of "fantasy genre art"; she doesn't want ridiculously stereotypical bulging muscles or scantily-clad women, ferocious monsters or pirate ships. She just wants her world illustrated by the best local artists she can find.

What's in it for the artists? Publicity, for one; a free venue for a one-day art show, for another; the possibility of sales, for a third. Oh, and one more thing: that venue is none other than-

The Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, VA.
